Digital Product Passport as a Transparent Mechanism
The Digital Product Passport (DPP) is a registration system that digitally records information about a product’s life cycle and enables this information to be shared transparently. The DPP contains data on the product’s sustainability and recyclability features, sources, ingredients, production processes and environmental impacts.
Under this regulation, brands and manufacturers are obliged to collect, share and protect data throughout the entire lifecycle of their products. Access to the DPP is usually provided via a data carrier (e.g. QR code) on the product packaging. The aim of this system is to help consumers make more conscious and sustainable choices. In addition, this passport application, which will be gradually made mandatory for every product sold in the European Union countries, will increase transparency and traceability.
